Personality
Rune is a firestorm, most people either love or hate her. She is irreverent, quick to violence, rarely serious. She treats life like a game, lives in the moment and doesn't bother with any long-term planning, though is tactical and cunning when it comes to war. She rarely attaches herself to another person, but those who manage to earn her admiration will find a fiercely loyal friend. At some point you will likely be punched by Rune, but her punches are a language all on their own. Those who know her well have learned to interpret those punches: "You're being annoying", "Nice one", "Give me a piece of that pizza", "Prepare to die".
Background
Rune was born into the gang known as Vexillum Belli "War Banner", one of three gangs that each controlled different vital parts of the ship "The Shepherd's Grace". This mutually assured destruction was the only thing that prevented them from completely destroying each other.
Family was supposed to mean very little, it was all about "the gang", so when her biological parents were killed, she pretended to just be disappointed by their weakness and carried the unseen scars in silence.
Rune had a normal childhood, for her culture, trained to fight at a young age, knowing survival is only granted to those willing to step on others to get it. She was propelled to leader of the gang at the age of only 16, after the previous leader made an unwelcome advance and ended up short a few pieces of anatomy and his life. At the time she didn't really want to be leader, it was just the way of things, but she quickly grew into the position as if she was always meant for it.
Her approach to dealing with the other gangs was more tactical, she went beyond just sending raiding parties from time to time to keep them in check and instead used social engineering, deception and ambush to start to gain advantages over the others.
Then came the end, the ship entered Epsilon Eridani and those vital life sustaining systems, that prevented the gangs from finishing each other off, became suddenly less vital. This ushered in a new, and very brief, age of lifetimes of anger and sworn vengeance being released from the need for restraint.
In the end it was Vexillum Belli that came out on top, leaving Rune to lead her gang of bloodthirsty miscreants into this new world, that seemed so different at first glance. But Rune sees it for exactly what it is and has always been. Survival of the fittest.
